Visit With A Racing Legend
March 20, 2015
Parnelli Jones was one of the very first members to join the 11-99 Foundation and proudly presents his member identification card — #16. His decision to join the Foundation was easy, as he and Bob Weinberg, the Founder of the 11-99 Foundation, were close friends. Parnelli was thrilled with the idea of helping CHP families, and continues to lend his assistance whenever he is called upon.
Steve Harrington recently had the opportunity to visit with racing legend, Parnelli Jones and he learned of his many accomplishments. A few of these include being the first driver to qualify at the Indianapolis 500 at a speed of 150 mph, being inducted into over 20 Racing Hall of Fames, and is currently the oldest living “500” winner. “I was thrilled to meet an Indy Winning Champion and icon of the racing world whose career spans more than 50 years. He truly is one of a kind,” Steve shares. Parnelli shared with Steve that he was once pulled over for speeding many years ago by a CHP officer. The officer walked up to the window and asked, “Who do you think you are – Parnelli Jones?”, to which he replied, “As a matter of fact, I am Parnelli Jones!” Parnelli’s reply eventually became the title of one of his many books.
