On April 6, 2019, while conducting a traffic stop on I-15 in Lake Elsinore, motorcycle Sgt. Licon was struck by an errant driver who had drifted off the road, suspected of being under the influence of alcohol. Sgt. Licon was airlifted to the hospital where, tragically, he was pronounced deceased. He was a 28-year veteran of the CHP, set to retire in just a few months. Sgt. Licon was preceded in death by his son Nathan, and is survived by his wife, Ann, daughter Marissa, step-daughter, Kelly, and step-son Stephen.
