General Scholarship Program Eligibility

 Eligible

  • Sons, daughters or other non-spouse, legal dependents of current or retired CHP employees (uniformed & non-uniformed)
  • Applicant must currently be enrolled in or plan to attend a post-secondary education program (post-secondary: college, university or trade/technical school) and have a 2.6* or higher GPA at the time of applying for the scholarship
  • Applicant must have graduated from high school by June 2017

*If GPA is lower than 2.6 and planning to attend a trade/technical school, please submit a completed application and transcript so we may evaluate further.

 Not Eligible

  • Applicant must not be an employee of the CHP, or a spouse of a CHP employee
  • Students enrolled in, or planning to enroll in, a graduate program are not eligible
  • Grandchildren, godchildren, nieces, nephews, etc., who are not legal dependents of a CHP employee are not eligible

Limitations

  • Students may receive up to 5 years of funding
  • Up to 3 years may be at a Community or Junior College

NOTE: Not all Eligible Applicants are guaranteed to receive funding. Various criteria are used to determine award levels and may result in disqualification.

Fallen Hero Scholarship Program Eligibility

 Eligible

  • Sons, daughters, spouses and other legal dependents of those lost in the line of duty Fallen Heroes (as determined by the CHP web site)
  • Applicant must currently be enrolled in or plan to attend a post-secondary education program (post-secondary: college, university, trade/technical school or graduate program)
  • Applicant must have graduated from high school by June 2017
  • Applicants must be seeking a Bachelor's, graduate degree, or trade/technical school completion

 Not Eligible

  • Applicant must not be an employee of the CHP

Limitations

  • Student may receive up to $100,000 during their lifetime
