FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: JULY 2, 2025

We join the California Highway Patrol in mourning the loss of Officer Miguel Cano, ID 23555, who served in the West Los Angeles Area and whose passing was announced earlier today.
On July 2, 2025, during the early morning hours, Officer Cano suffered a suspected medical emergency while on patrol. As a result, his vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree. Emergency personnel responded immediately and transported him to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. Despite all efforts to save him, Officer Cano was pronounced deceased at 1:40 a.m.
Officer Cano was deeply respected for his bravery, dedication, and compassion. His commitment to protecting the people of California leaves a lasting legacy that will not be forgotten.
He is survived by his beloved wife and devoted parents. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and fellow officers as we remember and honor his life of service.
In support of Officer Cano’s family during this unimaginable loss, CHP 11-99 Foundation Board Chairman Gordon McCall shared the following statement:
“On behalf of the entire 11-99 Foundation family, we extend our deepest condolences to Officer Cano’s loved ones and the entire CHP community. Officer Cano dedicated his life to protecting others, and we are forever grateful for his service and sacrifice. In this time of profound loss, we want his family to know they are not alone.
To help ease the immediate financial burdens, the Foundation has already provided Officer Cano’s wife with $50,000 in emergency and death benefit assistance. We stand by her and honor Officer Cano’s legacy today and always.
