On December 24, 2017, at approximately 11:30 PM, Hayward CHP Area Officer Andrew Camilleri, #21653, and his partner, were stopped on I-880 southbound at the Winton on ramp. An errant driver drifted off the road from I-880 and struck the right rear of the patrol vehicle. Both officers suffered injuries in the collision and were transported to the Hospital where tragically, Officer Camilleri was pronounced deceased. Officer Camilleri is survived by his wife, daughter, two sons, parents, brother, and sister.
